CC - 18 (Metal Free and Halogen Free)
The CC - 18 is an insulated single lead Linear Structured Carbon ® wire designed for highest quality low current (audio) signal transfer in special applications regarding the Industrial, Medical and Measurement equipment sphere.
The CC - 18 consists of 12,000 individually insulated Linear Structured Carbon ® (LSC) fibers in a 2.5 mm. black coloured HULLIFLEX ® jacket, and exhibits a total resistance near 38 Ohms per meter.
CC - 18’s design closely resembles the construction of the core(s) found in our The FIRST ® Ultimate, The FIRST ® Metal Screen and The SECOND ® audio interconnects.
The CC - 18 possesses a very special set of properties which combination cannot be found in any metal wire:
- Very high flexibility.
- No bending wear and no metal fatigue: wear resistance in practice is only determined by its special supple, tough and tear resistant HULLIFLEX ® elastomer jacket.
- Extreme corrosion resistance: LSC fibers are inert to most chemicals including strong acids and bases. The CC - 18’s resistance to aggressive chemicals in practice is only limited by its durable HULLIFLEX ® material jacket.
- Its extreme tensile strength approaches AWG 18 steelwire and in practice is only limited by its (crimp) termination’s limitations.
- A resistance near 38 Ohms per meter exhibiting extreme linearity even at very low signal levels: in LSC the signal traverses a linear crystal structure from end to end instead of the vast amount of (polluted) crystal boundaries found in metal wires.
CC - 18’s unique properties render it suitable in a broad range of special applications such as:
- Audio:
- Highest quality interstage signal transfer.
- High impedance headphone and electrostatic headphone wiring.
- Headset and telephone receiver wiring.
- Special resistors.
- Robotics.
- Medical transducer wiring (EEG, ECG, EMG ...).
- Special measurement equipment cabling.
- Microelectrode for electrochemical detection in biologic research (extracted single fiber).
Electrical connection to the CC - 18’s 12,000 LSC fibers requires a crimp connection. In applications allowing a “less durable” contact, conductive (Silver) glue can be used.
For making crimp connections we have our special type CC - 1.0 24 carat Gold coated clips available. Note: LSC fibers CAN NOT be soldered onto!
Before applying the crimp connection or conductive (Silver) glue, all fibers need to be de-insulated by means of rinsing the stripped wire’s ends in pure Propanone = Acetone.
EXTREME CAUTION must be paid to avoid any accidental transport of eventually broken off single fiber particles into the electronic equipment the CC - 18 is to be mounted in or onto.
Single fiber fragments are a few micrometer thick and are barely visible with the human eye. Stray fiber fragments can cause short circuits in electronic equipment at any unexpected moment, even after years. To reduce this risk we advise to rinse off the wire’s ends again in the Propanone bath after the crimp connection has been made and to perform all CC - 18’s termination steps in a separate ventilated area.
The CC - 18 is available in 1 meter lengths and multiples thereoff.
